Dunedin's Best Kept Accommodation Secret!

“Thoroughly spoilt. Angela puts so much into providing a warm welcome and a completely warm experience from beginning to end. As country people, we were amazed at how quiet and peaceful it was and the breakfast was simply outstanding! Superbly prepared and beautifully presented with all the finishing touches and very ample sufficiency! A real touch of elegance for a delightful night away. The bed was absolutely glorious. Angela is doing a wonderful job of restoring a lovely old house to its former glory and if you are looking for that touch of extra, where your hostess will treat you like royalty, then we heartily recommend a stay here.” - TripAdvisor Review, July 2010

A stay at Bygone Era Bed & Breakfast is to experience affordable luxury with a touch of elegance and a host who knows no bounds! Immerse yourself in a bygone era and be rewarded with superior personalised hosting. Our attention to detail will ensure you’ll feel welcome and at home and if you don’t believe us, check out what our guests have to say.

Situated in North Dunedin and minutes from the city centre on flat terrain (no Dunedin hills!), Bygone Era is close to all amenities and within walking distance of Ross Home & Hospital, Baldwin Street (steepest street in the world), Otago Community Hospice, Botanic Gardens, Knox College and the University of Otago. Off-street parking is available and public transport stops outside the gate.

We offer 3 elegant and well appointed private guest rooms packed with Edwardian architectural features and “to-die-for” luxury beds. Guests regularly compliment the sumptuousness and comfort of our beds and our biggest complaint is they hate getting out of them!

Tariffs include a sumptuous cafe style breakfast with a beautifully set table featuring silver service and fine china. Breakfast is served in the Dining Room from 8:00 am till 9:30 am.

The house doubles as an art gallery featuring NZ artists. Often the art creates an interesting topic of discussion amongst guests and there's always something interesting and unusual on offer. Most art is for sale.

We are committed to ensuring your comfort and an enjoyable stay so if there is anything you need, please ask.

Your host is Angela Tidey.
